MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SHORT NOTES

HELLO EVERYONE!

INTRODUCTION

My name is Chetan Kumar and I have secured All India Rank 79 in GATE 2019 from Mechanical Engineering. I belong to the town of Sangrur in Punjab. I did my graduation (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Jalandhar in 2018. It was my second attempt in the gate exam. In my first attempt, I secured AIR 2600 in GATE 2018.

During my last year of engineering, I started preparing for GATE and ESE examinations. After completing B.Tech I went to Delhi and joined Made Easy institute for Preparation. My main aim was to prepare for engineering services but since the technical syllabus of GATE and ESE is almost similar, so it helps me to prepare for the gate as well. This way I was able to cover the syllabus of GATE and ESE.

I started my preparation from July 2018 and as time proceeds I became more serious about my studies. I used to study around 3 to 4 hours everyday apart from coaching hours. For both the exams, my strategy was the same as first clear all the basic concepts of subjects. Having good command over concepts helped me to solve all kinds of problems with ease.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO UNDERSTAND

I would say start as early as you can since it makes you easier in the last stage of the examination. Whether you are a coaching student or self preparing student, it is necessary to give proper time to your preparation.

In the initial phase, it is very important to build or focus on concepts rather than going for numerical. Strong concepts will help you to analyze problems and open your understanding of subjects. Then solved some good conventional problems or examples followed by previous year's problems.

Solve all the previous year's problems to understand the trend of examination and to get the importance of chapters over subjects. Previous year's problems are the most reliable source to judge the difficulty level upto which you have to reach. Mark all the important problems which you are not able to finish in the first attempt. Marked problems will help you in revision plans.

It is very important to have complete knowledge about your exam syllabus so that you can decide your daily goals according to it. Having a short goal along with a long term vision helps you to track your preparation and also helps in maintaining your routine.

Always make sure that you finish your daily goal on a daily basis so that your consistency would be maintained properly. With the right planning strategy and right zeal, you can achieve your dreams.

The most important part of preparation is to have the right amount of quality content which covers all the syllabus according to your examination. Always follow standard textbooks for reference along with good quality coaching materials. Analysis of weakness is a must and for that always end up your subject with a subject test.

Revision and Test Series- The most important thing which students have to focus on is revision and attempting test series. The revision will help you to keep the things in your touch and not to forget while the test series will help you to learn from your mistakes. Many good students usually avoid test series while preparing and choose to attempt in the end and they make huge mistakes. Test series are designed to eliminate your misconception and to avoid your mistake. So it is very important to include test series while preparation.

Short notes are the ultimate weapons during the whole preparation. Many students usually do not come up with short notes and they suffer badly in the last few days or months before the examination. Short notes must be clean and error free so that you can make the best use of that in limited time. It will help you in quick revision and boost your confidence.

LAST MONTH STRATEGY

There are many subjects which are more important and have high weightage in GATE Examination. Subjects like Production, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Fluid Mechanics, and Thermodynamics are the most important subjects in GATE. In the last month before the examination, certain things students should follow to achieve a good rank.

Revise all the formulas by writing it on a paper.

Give at least 10 full-length tests before appearing to the actual examination.

Do not study a new topic since it is not going to help you.

Use a gate virtual calculator while solving numerical problems as it improves your speed and accuracy. Many students always make errors with virtual calculator.

Analyze your weak parts and work on them so that you can maximize your marks.

Do not take stress just before the day of examination.

Always read questions properly and check the answer before submitting it.

Take care of units as many students know the correct answer but do not take care of units and end up with negative marks or no marks.

Do not feel demotivated about test results, Just improve yourself by eliminating your common mistakes and do revision.

Believe in yourself.
