Production can be understood as the process of converting raw material into finished products by using various processes, machines, and energy.

There are a large no. of processes available for production but it can be mainly classified as-

Casting- It is the only process where liquid metal is used and requires preparation of the cavity. Molten metal is poured into the cavity and is allowed to solidify. After solidification, the object is removed from the mould.

Welding- It is a joining process in which a localized permanent joint is produce and the strength of the weld is more or equal to the base material. For performing welding, a highly skilled worker is required.

Metal Forming- Mechanical working processes are used to enhance the working properties of the metals. Mechanical working reduces the voids present in metal and makes them denser.

Milling and Drilling- In milling, the work-piece is fed into the rotating milling cutter having multiple cutting points while in drilling cutting tool called twist drill is used to make a hole in the workpiece.

Non-Conventional Machining- Machining processes in which there is no direct contact between tool and workpiece. They are more efficient and cost-effective as compared to conventional machining.
